January’s birthstone is the firey Red Garnet. This birthstone is also known by the names of Arizona Ruby, Cinnamon Stone and Gooseberry Garnet. February’s birthstone is the Amethyst. This stone is also called the Sobriety Stone or Light Amethyst. March’s birthstone is Aquamarine, but is also known as Lab Spinel. This stone is related to the emerald, but is more of a light bluish green color. April’s birthstones are Crystal and Diamond, basically a clear stone. It is associated with independence and youth. This is the stone you want to have with you when you want to get into touch with all that energy and drive of youth. Diamonds allow the soul to shine through in your everyday life.
May’s birthstone is the Emerald. It is also known as the beryl stone or green beryl. This beautiful gemstone is associated with birth, love and wisdom. This is the stone that is associated with Venus, the Goddess of Love, representing her love and beauty.
June’s birthstones are the Pearl, Moonstone and Alexandrite. Alex and Ani celebrates this month with light amethyst. So, as you can see, you have a lot of traditional choices with birthstones for the month of June. The Greeks believe that pearls were made from Aphrodite’s tears. This month’s gemstones are reported to promote faith and purity and to bring on calming.
July’s birthstone is the ruby, which is also known as sapphire when it is in another color. Rubies are said to stimulate the senses and to guarantee good heath, wealth and success. Deep love and passion are strongly associated with this King of the gemstones.
August’s birthstone is Peridot. It is also known as the Evening Emerald because of its green color. Peridot is said to bring the wearer opportunity, influence and power. It is said that is contains magical powers and it will protect a person from nightmares.
September’s birthstone is the Sapphire. The sapphire comes in a variety of colors from greenish blue to a deep blue color. When a sapphire is in a red color then it is called a Ruby. Sapphires’ metaphysical properties are said to attract heaven’s blessings and used to be a common gemstone worn by clergy in the Middle Ages. Other qualities are to protect the wearer from harm or envy.
October’s birthstones are the Tourmaline and Opal. Tourmaline comes in a lot of colors, but in the red color it is also known as Rubellite. When wearing opals it is said that it will protect your eyesight and also ward off evil. It also instills faithfulness and confidence in the wearer.
November’s birthstones are Topaz and Citrine, both a smoky yellow color. Citrine’s metaphysical properties include protecting the wearer’s vitality and health as well as lending hope and energy. Topaz is to help keep your intellect in matters of love.
December’s birthstones are Turquoise, Zircon and Tanzanite. All of these stones are in varying degrees of bluish green color.
