There's More To A Diamond Than The Size

By: Kelly York

Maybe it’s the time of year or something in the air but everyone is getting engaged and with every engagement, it seems that the diamond’s size is getting bigger and bigger. While having a big diamond is nice, there are other factors to consider when thinking about the ideal engagement ring for you or your fiancée. This brings us to the 4 C’s of engagement rings: Carat, Clarity, Color and Cut. Carat: The diamond size does play a factor in the decision of which engagement ring is right for you. While most people think Carat is the size of the diamond, it is actually the weight of the diamond. One carat weights 200 milligrams. Clarity: Clarity refers to the amount of inclusions the diamond has in it. Now, what in the world are inclusions? Well, they are characteristics inside the diamond caused by natural things trapped in the diamond crystal. The less number of inclusions there are, the better clarity the diamond has. Color: When you think of color you may think of a ring with a blue or red stone, but those are not diamonds. The range of Color on the Diamond Spectrum goes from being completely colorless to having a yellow tint to them. Diamonds can have other tints such as pink or champagne. Cut: If you want your ring to blind people with its sparkle, then cut should be your priority. The quality of the cut affects how the light is reflected into the diamond; therefore, how much the diamond sparkles. Every person is different when it comes to what matters to them and what does not, and there’s no right or wrong answer. Each of these elements helps to make the diamond different and make your ring unique. Come into Ben David Jeweler’s and we would be happy to help find the perfect ring for you!
