The story of Ben David Jewelers began with a move that was supposed to last just one year. Instead, it led to lasting friendships, a family business, and decades of serving the Danville community.
Ben and Rebecca David came to Danville so Ben could gain experience managing a jewelry store. After working at Jewel Box, the family briefly moved to Winchester. But the friendships they had formed brought them back to Danville, where they purchased Julian Jewelers.
Ben and Rebecca founded Ben David Jewelers in 1959. Ben’s knowledge of jewelry and the store's welcoming atmosphere helped build its reputation among customers in Danville and the surrounding Dan River region.
When Ben retired, he passed the business to his sons, Leon and Mark David. The brothers continued serving the community and carried the family business into its next chapter.
The store also became a setting for customers’ own family stories. Valentine’s Day weddings and vow renewals brought couples into the showroom, with the lounge transformed into a space for ceremonies and celebrations.
John "JT" Hyler became owner of Ben David Jewelers in 2017. Having started his jewelry career in 2005 and progressed into management, he brought his own experience to a business with deep roots in Danville.
Ben David Jewelers marked its 65th anniversary in 2024. The celebration announcement included a jewelry trunk show and a Diamond Dig fundraiser benefiting the Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer organization—connecting the anniversary with support for the local community.
