Led by talented singer/songwriter Colyn Cameron, Wake Owl scored a huge break when “Gold” was featured in the climactic final minutes of the November 8, 2012, episode of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. With the national exposure (9.2 million same-day viewers), the song quickly gained traction and hit the #1 spot on Hype Machine’s Most Popular Tracks chart.

Ourvinyl.com wrote this stunning review of “Gold”:

“Sometime there is a song that stops you dead in your tracks, accompanied with lyrics that grab you from the bottom of your gut and make you feel, well, alive. Wake Owl’s “Gold” does just that. It creeps into your psyche slowly in the first minute, before it builds up. Then the drums kick in, and you find yourself fully immersed in it. It is one of those songs that can remove you from wherever you are, whatever you are doing, and haunts you.”

A native of British Columbia, Cameron spent a brief period playing in other bands before creating and recording his own songs as Wake Owl. Supported by multi-instrumentalist Aiden Briscall and additional players, Wake Owl has toured the U.S. and Canada as the opening act for Bahamas, Zeus, and The Jezabels. Wake Owl will release its debut EP Wild Country on January 29.

“Gold”

Written by Colyn Cameron. Performed by Wake Owl.

So, didn’t you find love or salvation in what they do,
A heart is built of gold, they fairies they are too, it’s in the hands you hold,
How long can we ignore, we build a little more, and then we break our truth

‘oooooo’ (for four bars)

I don’t feel like I’m falling, I’m up against the sky,
I said I’d taken it all in to make the good life,
I don’t feel like I’m falling, I’m up against the sky,
Let’s grab the heart of the world and turn into the light

But I cannot turn around, the angels hear me now, go where I’m bound,
You smile like you know the new world has been found

‘oooooo’ (for four bars)

I don’t feel like I’m falling, I’m up against the sky,
I said I’d taken it all in to make the good life,
I don’t feel like I’m falling, I’m up against the sky,
Let’s grab the heart of the world and turn into the light
I don’t feel like I’m falling, I’m up against the sky,
Let’s grab the heart of the world and turn into the light
