A wedding and engagement ring is something you need to purchase before the wedding. The engagement ring will come first, of course, when you propose. You can wait to buy the wedding rings until a time that is much closer to the wedding ceremony. What to do with your engagement ring during the wedding ceremony is another matter. You’ll have a couple of options.
Wedding and Engagement Ring
The wedding and engagement ring customs vary. Usually the older women in the family or the officiant will know what the custom is in your family. If you come from a modern family that takes on new ways of doing things then you will have a couple of options.
Some brides will move their engagement ring to the index finger or the ring finger of their right hand. Of course, it doesn’t fit, but it will be put on the first half of the finger until after the ceremony. This is a very common way to handle the wedding and engagement ring. After the ceremony the engagement ring is placed after the wedding band on the left hand.
Another option for you is to leave the ring at home. You will arrive to the wedding ceremony wearing no rings. This is probably the easiest and the safest option. There is no chance of accidentally dropping the engagement ring or losing it when it is safe at home.
Leaving the engagement ring on the finger is also an option. The wedding band is put on the ring after it. The traditional way to wear this set is to have the wedding band closest to your heart. So, you’ll need to flip the rings around after the ceremony. It would be a little too clumsy to do so during the ceremony.
